Our story
A hundred and twenty-plus years of cricket in central Auckland, and a club still chasing the top of the game.
Our story begins in 1899 at Kingsland, and takes in the founding of the Eden District Cricket Club in 1903, the freehold ground opened that same November, and the idea, hatched by an Eden club official, that became the Plunkett Shield.
Cricket has a way of passing from one generation to the next, and few clubs tell that story better. The Booth family have given four generations to the club: Ross Booth still turns out for the Presidents side after more than 30 years, following his father and grandfather, and now followed by his son. More than 120 years on, Eden Roskill remains true to the spirit that founded it, a community brought together by the game.
Our history
The Kingsland Cricket Club leases a patch of land from two local farmers. The seed of everything that follows.
Officially formed on 24 August 1903, the club buys 15 acres of freehold land and opens its new ground that November.
EDCC chairman E. C. Beale writes to Lord Plunkett, suggesting a cricket trophy to match rugby's Ranfurly Shield. A month later, the Plunkett Shield is born, a competition the club can rightly claim credit for creating.
Ten first-grade titles across the era, and three players who go on to represent New Zealand.
A new district scheme reshapes the club and brings it home to Keith Hay Park, where it has remained ever since.
The club moves to the south side of Keith Hay Park and purchases the clubrooms it still calls home today.
120-plus years on, a large, multicultural membership from juniors to Premier grade, still chasing the top of Auckland's game.
Our vision
To be one of the top four performing cricket clubs in Auckland, both on and off the field.
Our mission
To provide an environment for participation, learning and success, underpinned by our values and strong leadership. To foster youth, sportsmanship, excellence and professionalism on the field and in the community, and for everyone connected to the club to live our values with respect, passion and pride.
